I’m so glad you’re here.

If you’re a motivated professional who wants to grow your money and break free from the rat race—but you’re not starting with a trust fund or a six-figure salary—you’re in the right place!

I’m a millennial with a passion for personal finance, but I’m just an average person figuring it out along the way. No get-rich-quick schemes here—just real, practical strategies for building wealth step by step.

My Money Journey

Born in the early ’90s, I grew up in a time of great change. Back then, pensions, savings bonds, and HMO health plans were the norm. My blue-collar dad and razor-sharp mom instilled a deep work ethic in my sister and me, along with a healthy respect for saving. We got jobs at 16, bought our own cars, and never questioned whether we’d go to college—we’d be the first in our family to do so.

By the time I graduated high school in 2008, the Great Recession was looming, and with it came a heavy dose of money anxiety. I was accepted to every college I applied to with academic scholarships, but my parents made “too much” for me to qualify for grants. At 18, I knew one thing for sure: I didn’t want to graduate with six figures of student loan debt.

I chose a state school, majored in Business Economics, and added a minor in Information Systems (thanks to a savvy professor). I worked when I wasn’t studying—though I had my share of fun, too. When I graduated in one of the worst job markets in recent history, I had multiple corporate internships and a well-paying job lined up before I even received my diploma. My financial anxiety came with me.

In the years that followed, I grew immeasurably.
✅ I paid off my student loans within four years.
✅ My company paid for my MBA.
✅ My boyfriend (now husband) and I bought a house, flipped it, and used the equity to buy our forever home in my hometown.
✅ We got married, adopted two dogs, and had two incredible little girls.

Why I Started Generation Yield

Things have changed. If I could go back, I’d tell teenage me one thing: INVEST. But back then, investing wasn’t as accessible or necessary as it is today.

Now, it’s a different world. High Deductible Health Plans (HDHPs), Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), 401(k)s, IRAs, and brokerage accounts are essential tools for building wealth. Like any parent, I want my daughters to have more than I did. I want to retire before 50.

It’s not easy with rising costs and daycare expenses, but I know one thing: it’s possible.

And that’s why I started Gen Y Wallet—to share the strategies I’ve learned, the mistakes I’ve made, and the real-life ways to build wealth without giving up everything you enjoy.
